*Part 2* Mystery Story by Gu Shi Yu

Dear all,
This is part 2 of Shi Yu's mystery story. Enjoy!

~Part 2~
Lockwood Murder
“Really?”

“Yes. Eh… it’s just my guess.”

“Was there any sign of forced entry when you arrive?”

“No, not really.”

“So who do you think would be the murderer?”

“I think it is Jane. She hates her father for divorcing her mum. Or James. He has a criminal record.”

“For how long were you the doctor of William?”

“Almost about one year. He trusts me a lot. Poor old man. He did not want company at all, not even guards. It was only he had problems with his health that he hired me.”

“Yes, pretty bad he got killed. Oh, and thank you. You’ve been a great help for me.” Peter said. He then went home.

A few days later, Peter Wallace was at the forensic labotory. The results were out. The scientist said, “We found out there were traces of anesthetic in the blood of William Lockwood. The strand of hair belongs to someone called Charles Skylark and the fingerprint belongs to Jane Lockwood and James Lockwood.” “Jane and James……Very high chance they read the will.” Peter thought. “I’ll better question them.”

*

Peter was outside James’s house. He had called Jane to meet there too. He knocked on the door. James opened the door. Peter went in. He questioned them together.

“I’m here to question you about your father’s murder.”

“So what questions do you have for us?”

“I’ll just be direct. You read the will, didn’t you?”

The two looked pale. “How do you know?”

“I found the will in the drawer and evidence show that both of you touched it before.”

“Jane and I love our father. We would not have killed him. No matter how we hate him, he is still our father.” James said suspiciously.

“Really? I don’t think so. Anyway, who do you think is the murderer?

“I think it is Sam. He is quite suspicious. He is too good to be true. Caring so much for an old man. He just doesn’t look like it. We warned our father of him before but he ignored our warning. ” Jane said.

“Do you know what was in the safe?”

“There was the jewel from Sydney. My father bought it a few years ago in an auction. It was worth millions.”

“Thank you. I’ll let you know if I have anymore questions for you.”

*

Peter went home. He sat on his chair and thought.

Peter first met Sam just after the murder. He had an unusually dry hand, and was quite tall. He mentioned the way William was killed and it turned out to be true. Somehow, the two siblings suspects him.

Next, was this person called Charles. Who Charles? Why was his hair found in the bedroom? Why had his name appeared in this mystery in the first place? It was possible Charles used a fake name, but why must he use it?

Jane saw the will. She said she would not kill him as he is her father. But that sounds unconvincing. Jane hated her father for divorcing her dearest mum, according to Sam. Was it possible for her to kill William?

Now comes James. He, too, saw the will. He has a criminal record of stealing, which was a very possible suspect of the murderer. Could he be the one?

Peter thinks that he should now find out who is Charles.

*

Peter went to the police station. It is always full of records. He went to the computer and searched ‘Charles Skylark’. There were many results. But there was one which caught his eye.

The title was ‘Shawn Skylark’. It was a police report dated in the 1990s. The description says he is the father of Charles Skylark, who died in a hit-and-run car accident. The police found the driver, which is William Lockwood, but only gave him a fine and nothing else. They said to go to Shelf 8, Row B to find out more about this.

So, Peter searched for the file. When he finally found it, he took the file out. Opening the file, he found a copy of a doctorate. It was dated three years ago. This person named Charles had worked as a surgeon for two years and switched to be a personal doctor of William Lockwood. “Sam…”Peter murmured, but continued to look through the file.

He found out Charles bought a stock market after he quitted his hospital job. It fell very badly recently.

Peter called Sam. He asked Sam “Who are you exactly?”

“I’m Sam.”

“Sam what?”

“Em…Sam Skylark.”

“Your name is Charles Skylark, right?”

“That… that was my old name.” Sam lied.

“You’re lying!”

“Alright, my name is Charles.” Charles sounded frightened.

“Anything else?”

“Nothing.” With that Peter hung up.
